Beach Inspired Cabinet Using Nautica Paint

Disclosure:  I was provided a gift card to Menard's to purchase the Nautica Paint and supplies.  All opinions and comments are my own.  I wouldn't recommend a product unless I loved it!

I've you follow along with me on my blogging journey, you know I'm always switching things up around here!  So when Nautica Paints approached me with the idea of working with them on a beach inspired room makeover I was all over that idea!!

This is the first part of a three part post.  This first post is about the cabinet I reworked and painted with Nautica Paint.

A New Look For a Purple Cabinet

Hello!!!  I have a fun project to share with you today.  A few months ago one of my neighbors asked me to paint a purple cabinet she had bought at a garage sale.  She's got the patience of a saint because it took me a long time to get to this one.  I had a lot of other commitments and finally had time to give this purple cabinet a new look.

Furniture Refresh Girls October Theme "Inspired By"

Hello!!!  I'm happy you're here!  This is a big occasion for My Passion For Decor and several other bloggers because this is our first installment of 'Furniture Refresh'.   Each month myself and the other bloggers will share our project for our 'Furniture Refresh' theme.  This month our theme is Inspired By....this can be anything from Fall, to the color white or in my case French country design.
Let's get this party started shall we?!

Modern Farmhouse Inspired Kid's Desk

Hello!!  I have a fun project to tell you about today!!

Last week I was out shopping with some friends.  It just so happened the one friend was picking up a vintage table they bought on a local Facebook garage sale page.  When we got to the house the owner had quite a few great pieces for sale.

I spied this beat up, dirty and stained solid oak school desk.  I have a true love of desks.  They're not the easiest to refinish, but I'm always drawn to desks and I enjoy working on them.  Luckily I was able to purchase the desk and get it home the same day, thanks to my friends big SUV!

September FFFC Geometric Design...Don't upholster, Paint!

Hello!!  I'm excited to show you my project for the The Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest!!  This months challenge was to create a geometric project.  I thought long and hard about what to do and came up empty.  This all changed when I came across a stained and out of date upholstered cane chair.
I've always wanted to paint upholstery and this project was perfect.  Not only could I make it geometric, but I could try painting fabric!

My Adoption Story and Coming To Terms With My Story

I know this is the place I normally share my DIY projects, home design and makeovers, but today I'm doing something a little different.

I'm sure not many of you know, unless you follow me on Facebook,  that I'm adopted.  I was adopted by my parents from LA County adoptions when I was three days old.  I was lucky enough to have a family that wanted a child and was willing to open their home to a stranger's baby.

When I was 6, my parents told me I was adopted.  Looking back, I can't remember what my reaction was.  I do know that ever since that day I fantasized about who my birth Mother was and why she would give me away. The fact that I am adopted has deeply affected me all through my life.

From Ugly Cubby to Cool Storage

Hello!!!  It's that time of year....that dreaded back to school season.  I have to admit I really enjoyed my summer and I don't feel like school should have started in the middle of August.  Anyway, with school starting, my mind always goes to organization.  I have to make a confession....I'm not organized in any way shape or form.  It's not really in my DNA, but I really do try!

Easy Lane Chest Makeover Using Embellishments

I love a nice cedar chest at the end of a bed.  I'm a huge fan of the look and the functionality.  Needless to say, I was thrilled when I came across this Lane Chest at my local Goodwill.

It was simple and lacked any pizazz or character, but I knew I could change that!

Easy Gallery Wall Using Minted Artwork

Disclosure:  I was compensated for this post with product, however all opinions and thoughts are my own.  I'd never recommend a product or service unless I loved it myself!

I was approached by Minted to write a post about some of their products.

In case you don't know about Minted here are a few facts about the company:
  • Minted is a design marketplace of independent artists from around the globe.
  • All artworks are available in a wide range of sizes and frame options.
  • The product selection is constantly expanding as Minted grows its artist community and hosts ongoing challenges.

From Ugly Red Bench to Farmhouse Chic

I'm really excited to share this post with you today.  This little bench has come along way from where it started from!

I bought this little bench at a local estate sale.  As soon as I saw it off in the corner, I ran over (yes, I actually ran) and grabbed it.  It was like a toddler who spies a toy they can't wait to get their little mitts on!  I had a vision for this little bench and it turned out even better than I envisioned!

Vintage Map Nightstand

Fun thing about having a 10 year old Son....he wants to keep everything I make and loves that I redo furniture for him.

I found this set of furniture on our neighborhood FB garage sale site.  The price was right and I liked the lines of the furniture.

Hunter had needed a new nightstand for awhile.  The old Pottery Barn Kids start table he had wasn't working for him anymore.

Back To School Teacher's Tote

It's that time of year again!  I don't know about you, but around this house, summer has gone by way too fast.  We started getting summery weather about 3-4 weeks ago, so there's no way it's time for school, right?  I started to step out of my denial and think about school and teachers.

Every year, I take a gift of school supplies for Hunter's teacher on our meet and greet day.  At first I worried the teacher might think I'm kissing up, but after asking some teacher friends, they all agreed they want as many supplies as they can get.  Teachers have a lot of out of pocket expenses, so I feel like it's my job to help them out.

Headboard & Reclaimed Wood Bench

Hello!!!  Welcome to the first edition of DIY'ing as a family!   I was lucky enough to have Hunter home from camp last week and he decided he wanted to help me build something.  I've had a project tucked away in my brain for quite sometime and figured it was time to get started on since I had help!

DIY Sofa Table

Today I'm sharing a fun DIY project the hubby and I built on Saturday.  I have to admit, I'm still a bit shocked I was able to coax him into building this with me.  Normally he runs like crazy if I ask him to build or work on something with me.  Let's just say he's very logical and well....I'm not.  He likes to use plans to build something, where I find it more fun to figure it out as I go along.

Black and Boring Piano Bench Makeover

DISCLOSURE:  I received product for doing this post.  However, I'd never write about a product I don't love!  All the opinions here are solely mine.

If you read my last post about the Grain Stripe Coffee Table, you might remember I mentioned that project caused me some bumps and bruises.  Well, this one was a real peach.  I hurt myself more times than I can remember, including cutting myself with an electric knife.  Yeah, you read that one right...an electric knife, the kind you use for carving turkey!  I use an electric knife to cut my foam.  I've found it's the best for that, but obviously it's dangerous!

Grain Stripe Coffee Table

Do you ever have one of those days where you wonder how you make it through the day in one piece?  I seem to be having a week of days like that!  I can't seem to finish a day without a cut, bruise or paint spilled all over me.

The piece I'm sharing today is one of the pieces that caused me all kinds of pain and probably a few scars.

Cream Roll Top Desk Makeover

I'm really excited to be sharing this project with you today!

If you've been following along here for awhile, you'll already know I've made over a lot of desks while writing this blog.  There was one I did for Hunter when I first started blogging,  union jack desk.   There are quite a few so here's a list and links to all the desk projects I've taken on since the birth of this blog:  navy blue beautydesk for HunterPottery Barn desk hackvintage gas station map desk.....Anyway, you get the point, I love making over desks!  I love them so much that when I saw this roll top desk and chair show up in our neighborhood garage sale group,  I jumped at the opportunity to work on this baby.

Industrial Work Bench Turned Coffee Bar

Hello!!!  I'm back with a new post and this one was a lot of fun for me!

A couple years ago I bought an old printers work bench at The Elephant's Trunk in CT.  I paid a lot more for the piece than I wanted to, but there was something about it that I fell in love with.  The bench had writing on it from the person who used the bench as well as lots of marks and character that I'm drawn too.

Gift Wrap & Hardware IKEA Rast Hack

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Hello!!!  It's time for some fun with DIY and makeovers!  I have to admit to you that I'm a bit giddy about this project!!  I was lucky enough to be asked, along with 9 other bloggers, to work with Hickory Hardware on an IKEA Rast hack.  I was beyond happy to be able to pick new hardware, for my Rast dresser, from Hickory's vast collection online.  This girl was in hardware heaven!!!!

Distressed French Poem Desk

Hello!!!  Welcome back for another round of Monthly Themed Furniture Makeovers!  In case this is your first time here, each month I take part in a themed furniture makeover with a group of talented blog friends  Every month there's a different theme and this month's is distressed furniture.  I had the perfect piece waiting for a makeover.

Not long after we moved to the Chicago area, I found this simple, oak desk at a thrift store.   I've been using the desk as a workbench for my miter saw.  I had a plan for the desk, but the timing was never  right, until now.

The Piece That Almost Got Away...Reclaimed Table

Hello!  I'm happy to be sharing this post about the table that almost got away.  This isn't a story about how I found a table at a thrift store and almost walked away without buying it (I can't even count how many times that has happened!).  This is the story of the table I almost sold.  About six years ago, while living in Canada, I purchased this reclaimed wood table from a furniture store.  The hubby and I fell in love with it's character and bought the table for our family room.  We used the table for a year or so as a coffee table until we moved to Connecticut.  If you've ever moved, you know that pieces that might work in a room now, won't necessarily work in the same room in a new house.  Our family room in our new home was a lot bigger and this table just didn't work there anymore.  For the next several years the table was moved from house to house and room to room, never really finding it's home.

Be~YOU~tiful Link Party And Features

It's that time again!  Wow you are a bunch of talented folks!!  I look forward to seeing what you link up each week.  Each time it gets harder and harder to pick favorites.

Here are the features for this week.

First up is this beautiful desk makeover from Bonnie of Revolutionaries.  She took a boring desk and gave it a coat of General Finishes paint and glaze.  This piece is lovely and that color....I'm in love!!

This next feature has me thinking about Easter and spring.  I don't know about you, but I can't wait for winter to be DONE!  You're not going to believe how Linda of At The Createaerie did with dollar store styrofoam eggs, gesso, sand, paint and moss.  Absolutely adorable!!

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, this unique and fun LOVE sign made by Susan of Rustic ReDiscovered.  Susan took some junk pieces and a piece of wood, added some paint and spelled out love.  All I can say is I'm in love with this sign and wish I had one of my own!

Last feature is from Deb at Lake Girl Paints.  She did a cold technique on the top of this table.  I've never seen a table top painted with a faux wood grain that looks so real!  You need to read how she did this.  I definitely learned a thing or two.

Now it's your turn!  Share what you've been working on.  I'm so inspired by your projects and look forward to seeing your work.

Thanks for the inspiration!!!

Melody
